Female Orgasmic Disorder is a condition in which a sexually excitable woman is unable to reach orgasm. This disorder is also known as anorgasm or preorgasm wherein a woman has never reached orgasm either by masturbation or with a sexual partner. As per research, almost 10 percent of women are unable to reach orgasm in any manner. Most women are capable of getting an orgasm when the clitoris is stimulated and only 50 percent of women get an orgasm during sexual intercourse.
For some women, the condition occurs only with a specific partner or in a particular situation, whereas for others it may be a lifelong problem. Female Orgasmic Disorder can be a debilitating condition, if left untreated and can cause a great deal of misery for the patient.
Causes of Female Orgasmic Disorder:
Both physical as well as psychological causes may tribute to the development of this condition.
History of sexual abuse: Women who have a history of sexual abuse or physical abuse may find the thought of having sex rather repulsive in their sub-conscious. This may lead to a significant delay or the inability to attain orgasm in the woman.
Infection: various infections of the genitalia such as urinary tract infection, eczema, candidiasis, chlamydiam thrychomonas, endometriosis etc. may also lead to the development of this disorder.
Medications and alcohol: Various medications such as antidepressants, high blood pressure medications, antihistamines and alcohol also lead to the development of this disorder.
Insufficient lubrication: This may occur in the absence of enough foreplay or when the estrogen count drops such as during menopause, childbirth, breast feeding etc. Intake of various drugs as well as birth control pills may also contribute to this.
Negative body perception: This means that the women is not happy with her physical appearance and is therefore unable to attain orgasm.
Unresolved issues: When there are various domestic issues that are bothering a woman in the back of her mind that need to be resolved with the partner, she is unable to receive orgasm.
Other factors: Various other psychological factors such as stress, depression or anxiety can lead to the non-attainment of orgasm.
Treatment:
Treatment of Female orgasmic disorder includes administration of medication and psychotherapy or a combination of both. In case of any psychological issues, both partners are taught to communicate with each other and resolve any underlying issues and conflicts. Medications are also prescribed to treat depression, stress and anxiety.
