Uses of Tolvon:
Tolvon is an antidepressant medication which used to treat various mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) and obsessive compulsive disorder. It is classified as a SSRI (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor) and works by hindering the reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin at the synaptic cleft. It rectifies the chemical imbalance in the brain and uplifts the mood.
Indications and dosage:
It is essential for you to take the medication as prescribed by your physician in order to avoid any side effects. You must also not stop taking the medication abruptly without the consent of your doctor as it may worsen some of the symptoms of the disorder you are being treated for. The drug can be ingested with or without food.
Warning and Precautions:
Tell your doctor if you are hypersensitive to Mianserine or any other drugs, foods and dyes.
Do not take this medicine if you have manic symptoms.
Avoid taking this drug with other central nervous system (CNS) depressants.
This drug should not be taken if you have been diagnosed with epilepsy, bipolar disorder, kidney or liver disease or cardiovascular disease.
Regular blood count monitoring is required, especially in the first three months of therapy.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating before taking Tolvon and discuss the benefits and side effects of this medicine.
Drug Interactions:
Blood levels are decreased by phenobarbitone, carbamazepine and phenytoin.
It should not be taken along with antihypertensive medications.
Tolvon should not be taken with mono amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Central nervous system (CNS) depressant effects of Tolvon are enhanced by the intake of alcohol, sedatives and hypnotics.
Side effects of Tolvon:
Some of the most common side effects of this medicine include lethargy, drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, weight gain, changes in blood sugar levels, blood dyscrasias and hepatitis.
Overdose:
In case of an overdose of the medication, you must report to your doctor at the earliest or contact your local poison control center.
