Uses of Neuleptil:
Neuleptil is a psychotropic agent belonging to the class of phenothiazines. It is used in the treatment of psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and helps combat delusions, hallucinations and mental confusion. It also helps treat tension, aggression and impulsiveness in patients with psychotic symptoms. Neuleptil has sedative as well as antipsychotic properties and has a calming effect of schizophrenic patients.
Dosage:
Neuleptil can be taken orally with or without meals. It is essential for you to take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor at regular intervals. Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly without the consent of your doctor as it may worsen some of the symptoms of the disorder you are being treated for.
Warning and Precautions:
Do not take Neuleptil if you are allergic to phenothiazines.
This medicine can result in circulatory collapse which can be quite fatal.
Do not give this medication to the patient in comatose state.
This medicine should not be given to patients with a history of blood dyscrasias, kidney or liver disease.
Patients on central nervous system (CNS) depressants such as alcohol, antihistamines, analgesics, anesthetics or tricyclic antidepressants should not take Neuleptil.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating before taking this medicine.
Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery while on Neuleptil.
Do not consume alcohol when taking this medicine.
Side effects:
Some of the most common side effects of the medication include drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, impairment of psychomotor activity, postural hypotension, cardiovascular disease, tachycardia, blurred vision, glaucoma, Parkinsonism, akathisia, nasal congestion, increased sweating, diarrhea, aggression, constipation, dental caries, paralytic ileus, allergic reactions, appearance of rash, increased sensitivity to light, asthma, laryngeal edema, hyperpyrexia, angioneurotic edema, abnormal pigmentation and decreased libido.
Overdose:
In case of an overdose of the medication, you must report to your doctor at the earliest or contact your local poison control center.
