Uses of Melitracen:
Melitracen is a tricyclic antidepressant that is recommended for the treatment of depression. It works by inhibiting the reuptake of nonadrenaline and serotonin, thereby elevating the mood. It is used in combination with flupentixol to treat terminal neuralgia.
Dosage:
Melitracen can be taken orally with or without food. It is essential for you to take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor at equal intervals on a daily basis. Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly without the consent of your doctor as it may worsen some of the symptoms of the disorder you are being treated for.
Warning and precautions:
Do not take this medicine if you are hypersensitive to it.
Melitracen should not be given to patients suffering from bone marrow depression, cardiovascular insufficiency and agitation.
This medicine should also not be given to patients who are in the state of coma.
Patients on other medications such as antihistamines, anticoagulants, oral contraceptives, levodopa, lithium and mono amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) should not take Melitracen.
Caution is advised when prescribing this medication to patients diagnosed with or having a history of liver disease, seizures, mania, kidney disease, brain tumors, Parkinson’s disease, thyroid disorder, sinusitis, cardiovascular disease or ulcers.
Strict drug monitoring is advised when prescribing this medicine to the elderly.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating before taking this medicine.
Do not consume alcohol when taking Melitracen.
Avoid driving or operating any hazardous machinery when on the medication.
Side Effects of Melitracen:
Some of the most common side effects of the medication include drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, tachycardia, blurred vision, state of confusion, increased sensitivity to sunlight, headache, weight gain, changes in appetite, constipation, orthostatic hypotension, vomiting and diarrhea.
