Uses of Isoptin:
Isoptin is used in the treatment of essential hypertension. It belongs to a category of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. It works by widening the blood vessels such as arteries and veins and reduces the workload on the heart. It is administered for the treatment of high blood pressure, angina and to control irregular heart beat.
Dosage:
It is essential for you to take Isoptin as prescribed by your physician. It is not recommended that you stop taking the medication abruptly as your condition might worsen. It is necessary to swallow the medicine as whole and not after crushing, breaking or chewing it.
Warning and Precautions:
Do not take Isoptin if you are hypersensitive to the drug.
Notify your doctor if you have a kidney or liver impairment, cardiovascular disease,sick sinus syndrome, aortic stenosis, heart block, Wolff Parkinson, low blood pressure or muscular dystrophy.
You must tell your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating before taking this medicine.
Do not consume alcohol when on this medicine.
Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery after taking Isoptin.
Caution and close drug monitoring is advised when administering this drug to the elderly.
Avoid getting up suddenly from a sitting or lying position as you may feel dizzy.
Side effects of Isoptin:
Some of the most common side effects of the medicine include irregular heartbeat, dizziness, fever, sore throat, headache, edema, nausea, diarrhea, jaundice, constipation, skin rash, fatigue, itching and tingling sensation.
