Uses of Imovane:
Imovane is a central nervous system (CNS) depressant that is used in the treatment of insomnia. This medicine helps individuals get better quality sleep and is known to have hypnotic and sedative properties. It also has anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant properties similar to benzodiazepines.
Dosage:
Imovane should be taken as directed by your doctor. Do not take this medicine in excessive doses as it is a habit forming drug and can cause drug dependency. It is best to take it before going to bed.
Warning and Precautions:
Do not take Imovane if you are allergic to it.
This medicine is not recommended for infants and children.
Patients diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, mental depression or asthma should not take Imovane.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating before taking this medicine. Safety of this drug has not yet been established in pregnancy and this medicine passes into breast milk while nursing and can arm the baby.
In case you are suffering from liver or kidney disorder, you must notify your doctor before taking this medicine.
Do not consume alcohol after taking Imovane.
Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery after taking this medicine.
Caution is advised when administering this medicine to the elderly as they may experience lack of coordination and tremors.
Drug Interactions:
An increase inplasma concentration is noted when Imovane is taken with metoclopramide, whereas a reduction in plasma concentration is noted with atropine.
Side effects of Imovane:
Some of the most common side effects of this medicine include metallic or bitter after taste, irritability, mental confusion, depressed mood, drowsiness, lethargy, ataxia, nausea, vomiting, urticaria, rashes, dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, heartburn, impaired vision, chills, agitation, irregular heartbeat, tremors, clumsiness, anxiety, restlessness, heart palpitation, increased salivation, cramping, tension, aggressiveness, mood swings, sleep disturbances, memory impairment and tingling or burning sensation.
Overdose:
In case of an overdose of the medication, you must report to your doctor at the earliest or contact your local poison control center.
