Uses of Dexedrine:
Dexedrine is used in the treatment of Attention deficit disorder with Hyperactivity as well as narcolepsy, minimal brain dysfunction in children, epilepsy and Parkinsonism. It is a psychostimulant drug known to produce wakefulness and energy at the same time decreasing hyperactivity in patients. It is also a central nervous system stimulant and possesses stimulant properties similar to those of methamphetamine but is slightly less effective.
Indications and Dosage:
Dexedrine must be taken as directed by your physician. It is strongly recommended that you abstain from taken more than the prescribed dosage and discontinue taking it once your doctor orders. The drug is highly addictive and may cause insomnia if taken in large quantities for a longer period of time. It is also unadvisable for you to take the drug in the later part of the day due to the fact that it may cause insomnia. On experiencing any symptoms such as loss of appetite or sleeplessness, you must notify your doctor at the earliest.
Adverse Drug Reactions of Dexedrine:
Some of the most common side effects of the medication include restlessness, vertigo, over stimulation, headache, drowsiness, vomiting, fatigue, changes in sex drive, unpleasantness, ataxia, skin reactions, hyperactivity, schizophrenia-like psychosis, loss of appetite, stomach pain, skin disease, sleep disturbances, edema, personality changes and fluid retention,
Warning and Precautions:
The drug should not be administered to patients with a history of drug abuse.
Dextroamphetamine is not to be given to patients within 14 days after consumption of mono amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) as it may lead to hypersensitivity.
The combination of Dexedrine and Amphetamine is highly addictive.
This medicine if not safe for use in pregnancy and lactation.
Prior to administering the drug, liver function tests must be performed.
Stop taking the medication as prescribed by your doctor.
Dexedrine has high potential for abuse and is a habit forming drug if used for a long period of time.
