Carmaz: Drug Information
Carmaz is an anticonvulsant that is used for the treatment of certain kinds of seizures and epilepsy. Other uses of Carmaz include providing relief from pain in the facial nerves, helping to withdraw from alcohol addiction, treating obsession, treating diabetic neuropathies, treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, treating restless leg syndrome and chorea.
The generic name of this drug is Carbamazepine and it is sold under the brand name of Carmaz, Carmine, Carbatrol, Tagerol, Atretol, Epitol and Depitol. Other names used for Carmaz are Antilep, Carbadac, Carmine, Carmaz Kid, Cizetol, Epinil, Epix, Mezapin, Tegretol, Tegrital and Versitol RTD.
This drug is useful in treating Partial and generalized types of convulsion, but is not helpful in treating neuralgia and glosso-pharyngeal neuralgia.
Dosage:
Carmaz should be taken orally as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly without the consent of your doctor as it may worsen your present condition.
Warning and precautions:
Do not take this medicine if you are hypersensitive to it.
Carmaz is not recommended for patients diagnosed with AV conduction malfunction or porphyria.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating before taking this medicine.
This medicine is not recommended for patients diagnosed with kidney or liver disease, cardiovascular disease or blood disorder.
Caution is advised when administering this medicine to the elderly.
Patients who are on mono amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or oral anticoagulants should not take Carmaz.
People who have undergone a change in treatment from Carbamazepine to other antiepileptic drugs should not take this medicine.
Side Effects:
Some of the most common side effects of Carmaz are reduction in white blood cells, skin rash, oliguria, protein urea and presence of blood in the urine. Other side effects include hepatitis, Seven Johnson Syndrome and sickle cell anemia.
