Drug Class: Anxiolytic

Uses of Buspar:

Buspar belongs to a class of drugs known as Anxiolytic and is used in the treatment of anxiety disorders with or without depression. This medicine is not recommended for the treatment of day to day stress induced anxiety and must be taken after consulting a registered medical practitioner. Buspar is known for its anxiolytic properties and does not have any sedative, anticonvulsant or relaxant properties.

Indications and Dosage:

Take the medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Buspar is available in tablet form and can be taken with or without meals. It should be swallowed as whole and not broken, grounded or chewed. Take Buspar in indicated dosage at regular intervals 2-3 times a day.

Warning and Precautions:

Buspar is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity.

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any medicines or food.

Caution is advised when administering the drug to children and the elderly.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating before taking Buspar.

Notify your doctor if you have a history of cardiac disease, hypothyroidism, asthma, hallucinations, central nervous system (CNS) depression, enlarged prostrate, drug abuse, kidney disease or liver disease.

If you have been taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) you must tell your doctor.

Caution is advised when administering the drug to patients on benzodiazepine. It is necessary to it is necessary to withdraw benzodiazepines gradually over 6 weeks prior to prescribing Buspirone.

Side Effects:

Some of the most common side effects of Buspar include dizziness, excitement, sleep disturbances, nausea, lightheadedness, headache, paresthesia, chest pain, tinnitus, nasal congestion and sinusitis.

Drug Interactions:

DO NOT take alcohol when on Buspar.

Caution must be taken with other central nervous system (CNS) agents.

The drug increases serum haloperidol.

Do NOT take with mono amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
