Aurorix: Drug Information

Generic Name: Moclobemide

Brand Name: Manerix, Rimarex, Trima

Drug Class: Antidepressant, RIMA

Uses of Aurorix:

Aurorix is an antidepressant drug that is used in the treatment of various mental disorders such as Major depressive disorder and social phobias. Its mechanism centers on slowing down the action of monoamine oxidase (MAO) in the nervous system. Aurorix, a reversible and selective inhibitor of moniamine oxidase-A isozyme. It has a weak presser response and acts upon sympathomimetics. As compared to tricyclic antidepressants and non-selective irreversible MAO inhibitors, this drug is well tolerated and has a relatively low over dose toxicity outline. It is void of adverse, anticholinergic, sedative, cardiovascular, cognitive and psychomotor effects.

Indications and dosage:

You must take Aurorix as directed by your doctor at regular intervals with or without food. DO NOT stop taking the medicine even if you begin to feel better without consulting your doctor.

Warning and precautions:

Aurorix should not be given to patients suffering from hallucinations, hypersensitivity, acute confusion, schizophrenia, schizoaffective psychosis and pheochromocytoma (neuroendocrine tumor of the medulla of the adrenal glands).

The medicine is not to be given to neonates and children and must be kept out of their reach.

Tell your doctor if you are suffering from kidney disease, liver disease, enlarged prostrate, hypothyroidism, heart disease or brain tumors.

Caution and close dose monitoring is required during pregnancy and lactation. Notify your doctor before taking the drug if you are pregnant or lactating.

Tell your doctor if you are on Aurorix or have been in the past 2 weeks before any surgical treatment.

Side Effects:

Some of the most common side effects of Aurorix include nausea, liver failure, chloelithiasis, dizziness, insomnia, headache, tremors, constipation, agitation, increased sweating, anxiety, restlessness, flushing of the face, skin rash, irritability, panic and stomach upset.

Drug Interaction:

Avoid meperidine and codeine with Aurorix.

While taking morphine or fenatyl with aurorix caution is advised.

DO NOT take selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) with Aurorix.
