Uses of Aropax:
Aropax is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by inhibiting the re-uptake of serotonin after it is released in the synapse. This medicine is widely used in the treatment of depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, social phobias, generalized anxiety disorder and post traumatic stress disorder. In Australia and United States it is sold as Paxil.
Warning and Precautions:
Aropax should NOT be administered to patients suffering from hypersensitivity.
In case you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy you must not take this medicine. Certain studies have revealed that taking Aropax in the first thirteen weeks of pregnancy might be co-related to certain birth defects in the baby.
You must tell your doctor if you are epileptic, have glaucoma, manic disorder or renal or hepatic impairment.
In case, you are allergic to any specific foods, medicines or synthetic stuff, you must notify your doctor.
Aropax should NOT be used with mono amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Patients on neuroleptics must not use this medication.
The medicine should not be given to children and those below the age of 18 years.
Side effects of Aropax:
Some of the most common side effects of Aropax include postural hypotension, nausea, increased sweating, tremors, dryness of mouth, insomnia, acute glaucoma, appearance of rash, diarrhea, loss of appetite, dizziness, peripheral edema, blurred vision and constipation.
Withdrawal of Aropax:
Even if you feel that your symptoms have subsided, you must not stop taking the medicine abruptly. As per research, Aropax is rated as having one of the highest rates of SSRI discontinuation syndromes than any other medicine belonging to this class of drugs. Some of the most common symptoms of Aropax withdrawal are brain zaps, agitation, sleep disturbances, sensory disturbances, hot flushes, vertigo and suicidal thoughts. Withdrawal from this medicine should be made under strict medical supervision.
