Dealing with High Blood Pressure Headache

High Blood Pressure is known as a silent killer as it does not have any pronounced symptoms yet affects thousands of people across the globe. It is also known as hypertension and is an ailment that is caused when the flow of blood through the arteries is at a pressure that is higher than normal. This tends to exert extra pressure on the artery walls which results in their damage and disrupt the adequate supply of blood to other parts of the body. One sign that helps in diagnosing hypertension is headache which is pulsating in nature and is often experienced by patients on waking up in the mornings at the back of the head or behind the eyes.

High blood pressure and headache are closely interlinked. In fact, headache is many a time considered to be the main symptom of high blood pressure. Many individuals think that they have hypertension if they get a headache. But medically, it is not necessary that both hypertension and headache coincide.

High blood pressure headache and you:

A number of studies have proven that patients suffering from high blood pressure are at an increased risk of getting a migraine attack. It has also been found that certain drugs used to lower blood pressure such as calcium channel blockers and beta blockers are quite effective in treating these migraine attacks. This implies that in case you are a patient of hypertension and get frequent headaches one cannot conclude that your blood pressure has gone out of control. It is essential for you to consult a good doctor in order to get a proper diagnosis and opt for the treatment based on it. It is important for you to understand that a headache is just one of the indicators of high blood pressure and is not always a symptom of the disease.

However, the occurrence of three signs simultaneously for many days surely calls for an emergency attention. These are severe headache, blurred vision and nausea. These symptoms not only suggest high blood pressure, but they also indicate heart attack or stroke.
