Headache is one of the most common ailments that is known to affect individuals all across the globe. It can also be an indicator of various other ailments and if left untreated may result in a serious medical problem. In case, you happen to be suffering from a constant headache, it might indicate that you need to see an eye specialist at the earliest.

Most individuals believe that eye strain and the need to get a pair of spectacles is the most evident reason for constant headaches. On the contrary, this is merely one of the indications that your eye sight might be weak but is not necessarily a conclusive factor. There are various tests and examinations that are used to diagnose the history and underlying cause of such headaches. These include x-ray of the skull, CAT scan, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and other diagnostic tests.

Most headaches are known to originate in the muscles, nerves and blood vessels in the neck and head region. Headaches are caused when the muscles or blood vessels tighten or swell up and put pressure on the nerves. These nerves end up sending pan messages to the brain resulting in a headache. There are various types of headaches that can cause moderate to sever pain.

Muscle contraction: This is the most common and frequent type of headache which is caused due to muscular contraction. It is a type of constant headache that affects the forehead, eye balls and temples. The causes of muscle contraction headache include stress, prolonged hours of sleep, working for extended hours, sleeping or working in an odd posture for a long time and eye strain.

Migraine: This is also a common ailment that affects thousands of individuals on a daily basis. Individuals in the age group of 10-20 years begin experiencing migraine attacks that gradually increase in frequency and peak when these individuals are in the age group of 40-50 years. Migraine begins to fade away with age and may have genetic links. Migraine pain can be unilateral i.e. on one side of the head or bilateral i.e. on both sides of the head. Migraine headaches are usually very severe and are accompanied by dizziness and vomiting.

Other ailments: Various other ailments can cause constant headaches such as diseases of the eyes, head as well as teeth.

Eye strain: sitting for long hours in front of the computer or at your desk can also lead to a constant headache. Constant computer glare and infrequent blinking also puts tremendous strain on the eyes resulting in headache or worsening an existing one. As per research one should not stare continuously at the computer monitor for more than 10 minutes.
